James Elliott was born in Florence, South Carolina, on June 22, 1967. James graduated from the University of South Carolina (B.S. 1989). James was a licensed insurance adjuster from 1990 until 1994 handling property and casualty claims. In 1994, James entered law school. While attending the University of South Carolina School of Law (J.D. 1997), he was a member of the Order of Wig & Robe, clerked at the South Carolina Department of Labor Licensing and Regulation, and co-authored "High Hurdles: Proving Duty in Claims Against State Licensing Boards", South Carolina Lawyer, November/December 1996. After graduating from law school, James joined the law firm of Barnwell Whaley Patterson & Helms, LLC, where he became a partner in June of 2003. He left Barnwell, Whaley in 2006 to establish the law firm of Pritchard & Elliott, Attorneys And Counselors At Law, LLC. James is admitted to the South Carolina Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. James has tried over 30 cases to verdict and handled numerous appellate matters. He is a member of the Charleston County Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, American Bar Association (Member, Construction Law, and the Tort and Insurance Practice Sections), Defense Research Institute and South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association. James has extensive experience in civil trial practice as well as experience in appellate practice. His primary practice areas include Professional Liability, Construction Law, Products Liability and General Civil Litigation. He also practices in the areas of Insurance Coverage, Workers’ Compensation and Business and Corporate Litigation.
